Alphastrut®, the leading supplier of aluminium support systems to the marine, offshore oil and gas sectors, has continued its growth by opening an office in Singapore.
The Scotland-headquartered company opened its first overseas office in Busan, South Korea earlier this year and has chosen another strategically important location for its latest expansion.
Singapore has a strong offshore construction industry of its own and is also an ideal base from which to develop the company’s presence across South East Asia.
The new operation will be headed by Ong Tiong Wee, who has been appointed General Manager for Alphastrut Singapore.
A trained naval architect, he has worked in the marine and offshore industries for more than 15 years. His experience includes business development for multinationals operating in Singapore and spells as a commercial manager, quality assurance manager and project manager for premier local shipyards.
David Lawson, Managing Director of Alphastrut, said: “The opening of an office in Singapore is another important step in the company’s growth plans.
“We know that the weight, cost and fit-out time savings delivered by the Alphastrut system make it an attractive choice for offshore module construction, and are now looking forward to showcasing it to South East Asia’s offshore construction industry.
“We’re delighted to welcome Tiong Wee to the company and are confident that his expertise and local market knowledge will help us to enjoy success across the region.”
The Alphastrut system was originally developed as a weight-saving solution for the BP Valhall redevelopment project and has since been specified for use on major North Sea platform developments for BP, Nexen, Det norske and Total.
It consists of engineered aluminium extrusions anodised to AA25 marine grade and fabricated brackets which are bolted together to create support frames, which can be used for everything from load-bearing raised access floors to ceiling grids and bulkhead supports.
